Hi. My name is Charleen and I am addicted to massage. I love getting massages and can’t get enough of them! Just the thought of one makes me smile. In fact, that’s why I got a job as a receptionist at the Happy Head. I guess if you’re going to be addicted to something, a massage addiction can’t be too bad.
Over the years I’ve gotten to see thousands of happy clients here at the Happy Head, and experience being one myself! One thing I’ve discovered after working at the Happy Head for a few years is that there’s a right way to get a massage and a wrong way. There are some do’s and don’ts that will ensure that you get the most out of your massage. So here’s a list that will put a smile on your face and happiness in your heart.
DO come with an open mind. Every massage is different. While we try to maintain consistency here at Happy Head, the therapist working on you may change the routine a bit to cater to your needs. If they spend more time on a certain area, it’s usually because they felt it needed more attention. I know we have a tendency to get used to the same things, but keep in mind that change is sometimes necessary in order to get the most rejuvenating experience.
DO drink plenty of water throughout the day. Your muscles are mostly comprised of water. Maintaining proper hydration is very important. It will prevent your muscles from cramping and will allow the muscles to relax more during the massage.
DO come on time. If you come late, you may miss the entire experience. Coming in on time or even a bit early allows you to relax a bit before your massage and will improve your massage experience. The whole point of a massage is to relax so running late and being stressed defeats the purpose.
DO come in with a friend. Hanging out with a friend or loved one during your massage is a great way to enjoy your day. It allows you both to enjoy your time together and bond a little. Hang out at the Happy Head and you’ll see plenty of couples and friends coming out of their massage so much happier than when they came in.
DON’T expect a doctor’s visit. The massage therapist is there to give you a great massage without the spa price. Do not expect to be asked long ended questions that will ultimately lead to the same thing anyway which is a great massage. The masseuse is not a psychologist. They are not physicians looking to give you a diagnosis. The massage therapists at the Happy Head are there for one reason only and that is to give you a great massage for a great price.
DON’T come stressed. While massage is a great stress reliever, if you come with your stress level about 10 seconds away from giving you a stroke, it will be pretty hard to relax. You’ll spend your entire time thinking about what’s causing you stress and you’ll miss out on the pure enjoyment of your massage. Find a way to relax a bit beforehand and your body will thank you for it.
DON’T expect massage to get rid of all aches and pains. While massage helps alleviate the pain associated with muscle spasms, it’s not a pain pill. Don’t expect to come in excruciating low back and leg pain and expect to run a marathon after your visit. Massage doesn’t work that way. Massage lowers stress, reduces muscle spasms, and helps assist your body deal with tension and injuries. If you’re just coming in for pain, aspirin may be a quicker and faster choice.
And here’s one last DO to ensure that you get a great massage experience:
DO make massage a regular part of your health routine. Massage is a great way to improve your health. But you have to stick with it to get the most benefit. It’s sort of like dieting. If you lost 10 pounds to get to your ideal weight, you wouldn’t back to eating cakes and junk food right when you’re there. Getting a weekly massage has so many benefits. It reduces stress. It makes you happy. The benefits are limitless. So let Happy Head become a part of your health regiment!
That’s it for now. Follow these do’s and don’ts and you’ll enjoy your massage experience each and every time.
