How to Choose the Right Type of Massage

Category: Massage

Massage can be very beneficial in many different ways, but if you’re unsure of the right massage for you, the massage can sometimes counteract itself. Most of the confusion happens just because a lot of people don’t understand the different type of massage options there are out there and that not every massage is right for every person! For example, there are many massages that are meant more for spiritual and mental relaxation that almost everyone can enjoy, but this isn’t going to be the right choice for someone who is very active and looking for a massage to release deep muscle tension and soreness.

When choosing your massage there are a few things to consider, the first being is what is your main goal in getting a massage? Is it just to relax after a long day of work, remove knots in your back and shoulder’s, or maybe your concern is a sports injury or muscle spasm. From there then think about your personal preference. Do you prefer a firmer or deeper pressure or a medium pressure? Or would you like to focus more on back, neck and shoulders or maybe feet and head? All of these come into consideration when deciding on the right massage.

For someone who is very active and does a lot of sports, a Thai stretching massage or Deep tissues is a good choice because it will work out any kinks and help reduce muscle tension and soreness and improve some flexibility! For someone who still needs focus on back, neck, or shoulders but doesn’t want something so “intense”, Swedish is a better option. If you are looking to get a lot of work done all over the body and not extend the massage time a four hands massage is a great option. This is where two massage therapists work on one person at the same time. If you are always on your feet or work a lot with your hands then possibly a reflexology massage would be the right choice.

There are many options when choosing a massage and it can be a lot to take in, so just remember to think about your personal preference as well as your bodies concerns! If you still are unsure what is the right choice feel free to ask a professional, there is nothing wrong with making sure you get what you want out of your massage!
