Asian massage San Diego: Happy Head Foot Reflexology and Massage studio

What an Asian Massage Is at Happy Head

“Asian massage” covers a family of techniques from across East and Southeast Asia: Chinese-style foot reflexology, Shiatsu acupressure, Thai-style stretching and the flowing full-body work most people picture when they think of a massage. At Happy Head it means three things on the menu:

  • Foot Reflexology and Body Massage — from $69. Our signature Asian massage and the reason most regulars come back. A warm foot soak, then head, shoulder, arm and hand massage while your feet soak, then targeted reflexology on the feet, finishing with your back, neck and shoulders. You stay dressed; just shoes and socks off, in a reclining chair in our Zen Lounge.
  • Asian Fusion Combo Massage — $135 for 90 minutes. A full-body table session that blends deep tissue, Swedish, Shiatsu acupressure and Thai stretching into one treatment.
  • Happy Head Massage — from $89. The upper-body session that gave us our name: head, scalp, neck, shoulders and upper back, drawing on Swedish, Shiatsu and deep tissue techniques.

Prefer a classic full-body table massage? Our Swedish and deep tissue sessions are $89 an hour and available at every studio.

Chinese-Style Foot Reflexology

Reflexology is the oldest technique on our menu. It comes from the Chinese tradition that specific points on the feet correspond to the rest of the body, and that steady pressure on those points relaxes the whole system. Whether or not you buy the map, the effect is hard to argue with: people walk out lighter, looser and calmer than they walked in. If you have searched for a Chinese massage or Chinese foot massage in San Diego, this is the session you were looking for. It is the one we would point a first-timer to, and at $69 it is also the most affordable hour on the menu.

What an Asian Massage at Happy Head Is Not

We get asked, so here is the plain answer. Happy Head is a licensed, therapeutic massage business. Our therapists are licensed massage therapists, our studios are storefronts with normal hours and normal signage, and every session is a professional massage and nothing else. If you are looking for anything other than that, we are not the place, and we would rather say so up front. If you are looking for a skilled, affordable, authentic Asian-style massage from people who have been doing it in San Diego for more than a decade, you are in the right spot.

Asian Massage FAQ

What is an Asian massage?

An Asian massage uses techniques from East and Southeast Asian traditions: foot reflexology, Shiatsu acupressure, Thai stretching and firm, rhythmic bodywork. At Happy Head it is a licensed, therapeutic massage. Our most popular Asian massage is the Foot Reflexology and Body Massage, which combines a foot soak, reflexology and an upper-body massage in one $69 session.

Is an Asian massage different from a Swedish or deep tissue massage?

Yes. Swedish and deep tissue are full-body table massages that work the muscles with oil and long or deep strokes. Asian-style sessions lean on pressure points, stretching and reflexology, and the reflexology session is done in a reclining chair with your clothes on. Many guests do both: reflexology on a weekday, a deep tissue table session when they need real muscle work.

Do I have to undress for an Asian massage?

Not for the Foot Reflexology and Body Massage. You remove your shoes and socks and relax in a reclining chair in our communal Zen Lounge. Table sessions such as Swedish, deep tissue and Asian Fusion are done in a private room, and you undress to your comfort level under a sheet.

How much does an Asian massage cost in San Diego?

At Happy Head, the most affordable Asian massage San Diego offers is $69 for a 60-minute Foot Reflexology and Body Massage, $89 for a 60-minute Happy Head, Swedish or deep tissue massage, and $135 for the 90-minute Asian Fusion Combo. There are no membership fees. Many San Diego spas charge well over $100 an hour for comparable sessions.

Is Happy Head a legitimate massage business?

Yes. Happy Head has operated in San Diego since 2011, has seven storefront studios with normal business hours, employs licensed massage therapists and has more than 3,000 five-star reviews. Every session is a professional, therapeutic massage.

Do you take walk-ins for an Asian massage?

Yes. All seven studios take walk-ins daily from 10 AM to 9 PM. Booking online guarantees your time slot and lets you choose your session length.

Which Happy Head location is best for an Asian massage?

All seven offer the same menu, prices and reflexology lounge, so pick the nearest: Downtown, Pacific Beach, Sports Arena / Point Loma, El Cajon / Rancho San Diego, two in Chula Vista, and Carlsbad.

Should I tip for an Asian massage?

Tipping is appreciated but never required. Most guests tip 15 to 20 percent, the same as any other massage.
